Carrie was fresh out of her first break up with Big. I actually have a new perspective on that fight and it was 100% Carrie’s fault. I don’t like to give Big a lot of things, but when Carrie decided to ask Big if she was the one walking into the taxi to take them to the airport………that was a mess chile. That is not something you just spring up on someone AFTER the flights have been booked. At the very least Carrie, go on vacation and THEN ask him that. I understand why Big just didn’t say anything because what was he supposed to say after being put on the spot like that? I am also noticing his reasoning for doing a lot of things was that he made mistakes in his last relationships and he didn’t want to do that again with Carrie, which I understand. Especially since he’s nearly 10 years older than her. Not to mention she showed up at his mothers church and stalked him when he specifically asked her not to. Big thought she was crazy!! Of course he wasn’t sure if she was the one!
Anyyyyyyways, the purpose of this letter is not Big, but Ben, the guy Carrie randomly met in Season 2 Episode 3 sitting on what I assumed was the Washington Square Park fountain. But upon further look, I am not so sure.

They bonded over both having dated freaks in the past and swearing off dating. They go on a “non date” and eventually she sleeps over at his place. The first time I watched this episode I remember saying to my friend “omg he’s cute I hope she dates him for a while” to which he responded “……..”. I should have known then that Carrie was going to do something stupid. And something stupid she did.
After Big, she had gone on a lot of dates with people that were really weird: A rich kleptomaniac, a guy who yelled at people, etc. Therefore, naturally, she was waiting for the other shoe to drop on Ben. Even though he didn’t give her any reason to believe that he was weird. They bonded over the fact that they wanted someone normal! The last person he went on a date with slept with his shoes on! So what does Carrie do when he leaves her in his apartment to go to a soccer game? She looks for any evidence that he is crazy. As soon as the door closes she literally ransacks his apartment1 looking for clues. Eventually she finds this locked box and determines that this is the source of his freak-dom.
Well, of course he walks in on her trying to open the box. He came back home because he wanted to be with her instead of going to the game!!! Ironically the box was locked but could be opened by sliding the top part off. To Carrie’s embarrassment, the box contained old boy scouts memorabilia. Of course Carrie couldn’t explain herself so she basically just says she she should go and then leaves.
This episode always sticks out to me because it is the first (and possibly only) time that Carrie realizes and accepts that she is the problem. She literally was looking for a problem with this seemingly perfectly fine man just like she was looking for a problem with Big. If she had just been NORMAL maybe she could have saved herself years of heartbreak with Big and been with Ben, a “hip political magazine Editor.” He is so cute to me!!! Truly one of my favorite people she has ever been involved with. They had great chemistry and I wanted him to stick around for more than one episode. Add this to the list of reasons why I can’t stand Carrie.
Who were some random guys from Sex and The City that you remember? Besides the main ones like Big, Aidan, and Steve?
She was throwing shit every where and I was like is she going to pick that up before he got home??? Lord knows she didn’t memorize where everything was.
I also think of:
- the cello player Carrie dates. She essentially says she can't because of his ADD or ADHD.
- Charlotte and that guy who couldn't finish in bed unless he swore awful things at her.
- Robert (Miranda's neighbour). He was so attractive and I was kinda sad when she got back with Steve (especially during Brady's birthday party when they were both taken)
- Samantha and the guy with the "funkiest tasting spunk" haha she tries to eat greener foods with him hoping it'll affect him
YES!! I think about this often. I also think of:
- Sam and the short guy
- How Miranda and Charlotte both date people that Carrie dated (the asshole guy and the “sex maniac” who found Prozac)
- Carrie and the comic book store guy
