Haim’s last album Women In Music pt. III aka WIMPIII was released June 26, 2020. Almost five years ago. This is nothing new from my favorite band but I am getting a little antsy.
Since the release, they went on the WIMPIII tour (which I could not attend besides buying two tickets1 because I got COVID for the first time. To make matters worse, I was Asymptomatic, so it was all for nothing.) Alana was in Licorice Pizza. For legal reasons, I cannot say my opinion on the film, just that I saw it. Opened for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour. Appeared at several Louis Vuitton fashion shows2 and randomly DJed the Spotify Wrapped party.
Apparently, Alana is going to be acting alongside Leonardo Dicaprio and Zendaya in two different movies. Ok, sis! Go off! When will the album come out though? This is going to ruin the tour!
The last we heard of any of them in the studio was Danielle working with Charli on the Brat remix album. I am still confused as to why she isn’t credited on the “I think about it all the time” remix. I KNOW that is her voice. Anyway, I hope she was also working on some HAIM music as well because the kids have been starving.
In terms of the subject matter of the new album, they had a show recently (being generous with recently) where they said that they were all single at the same time for the first time. I can’t find that video but here is one where they said it was single girl summer back in 2023. Danielle was with producer Ariel Rechtshaid and hasn’t been seen with him since. Ariel produced songs for Vampire Weekend’s latest album3 and I went to the concert and put on my phone for them to sing The Wire. I know Ezra saw it because he said it out loud but he didn’t sing it. My theory is it was because Ariel was there. He did end up singing it at a different date (albeit not that well) but in his defense, that is a hard song to cover.
So I feel like we could be getting a breakup album similar to Something to Tell You. I personally LOVE Something To Tell You and I think they don’t really like it because they only ever perform Want You Back. Which I understand but You Never Knew is right there. Either way, I have been STARVING for new music from them. They only have 3 albums and a few features here and there. That is not enough to sustain me.
Their albums usually take a long time in between, which I appreciate because they need to cook and marinate the food. But the timer is almost up and I’m hungry. I hope by releasing this letter it sends something into the ether and we hear news about them coming back.
Similarly, my other favorite band, Tennis, announced that they have a new single coming out on Friday. This means they will probably announce an album soon after that. Pollen came out in early 2023, so it’s time. Clairo is also releasing a new video tomorrow for Terrapin, which I think will have Ayo Edebibri in it. So it’s very serious. Therefore, if HAIM were to come back, I would truly be unstoppable. Beyoncé already won AOTY. There isn’t much that I need. However, HAIM, if you’re reading, please wait until after I buy Cowboy Carter tickets so I don’t end up homeless!
