The 10 Worst Carrie Moments of Sex and The City
I don't call her Carrie "Dumbass" Bradshaw for nothing!
I have to admit that this idea came after Rose Dommu wrote the 10 Best Sex and The City Episodes for her newsletter. For the most part, I agree with Rose’s ranking so I wasn’t going to make my own list. I was pissed because I didn’t think of that first. So I decided to write my version of the 10 worst SATC episodes. The 10 worst things Carrie ever did. Besides, ranking the best SATC episodes is hard. Reading Carrie for filth is easy. For the people that I know who are watching the series but haven’t seen the movies, I also advise waiting until you’ve seen the movies because I talk about them. Alright, let’s get into it!
P.S. There will be SATC spoilers so if you don’t want them don’t read this letter x
Get the app already. Stop procrastinating and do it!
Honorable Mention
I stand on my grievances with Carrie on this. Carrie is so whack for going through that man’s stuff. I know some people think it is okay to go through people’s stuff in their house, but I don’t do that. I feel like people who just go through people’s stuff don’t have any home training. One time in high school we had a cast party at this girl’s house that I particularly couldn’t stand. When we left I found out that one of my then friends had stolen one of her family pictures. While at first I found it funny because I didn’t like her (I was also 16). Later I realized how fucked up it was. The person who stole it stood on business and said she deserved it because she’s such a bitch. She was a bitch, but I don’t think she deserved that. Anyway don’t go through people’s stuff without their permission or else you’ll end up like Carrie: Looking stupid in your underwear.
10. The Bisexual episode, S3 E4 “Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl, ”
This episode features a cameo from Canada’s own Alanis Morrissette!
I love this cameo. I hope Alanis is bisexual.
Carrie finds out that the young guy she is dating is Bisexual. She makes some really dated comments and ultimately decides that she doesn’t want to date someone who is bisexual. As a bisexual myself, I mention this episode because Carrie was tripping. It is beyond my dream to date a bisexual man. I am almost exclusively attracted to bisexual people and will stand on the fact that Carrie fumbled the bag here. He was so cute too! This entire conversation is just………
9. Big Is Moving to Paris, S2 E12 “Le Douleur Exquise!”
This is the meme of the season. If you have been living under a rock, every one is making their own version of this meme. The thing is, it’s funny every time because Carrie really is that selfish. Big tells Carrie that there is a chance that he could be moving to Paris for 7 months. Carrie gets upset because she wasn’t consulted in the decision. I actually understand (to some degree) why Big didn’t tell Carrie. Why get her worked up if its not confirmed?
Carrie then tells him later that she would be willing to move to Paris to make it work. Big tells her not to expect anything in return and Carrie gets mad about that (rightfully so because what?). They then have sex and break up. Ridiculous. Two people that never know how to talk about anything.
In this episode Miranda is dating someone (Will Arnett) who only wants to have sex with her in public. Charlotte is getting free shoes because she’s letting the man at the shoe store rub her feet (work!). The reason this is a meme is because Carrie really sat there not listening to what the other girls were saying. Just waiting for them to stop talking so she could reveal that Big was moving to Paris. Then she basically spins out and loses it at the table.
Ridiculous. This is just one of a billion examples where Carrie has to make it all about her. She can never just listen to her friends struggles. She either plays the bad luck olympics or just changes the conversation to be about her. Classic Narcissist shit!
8. Charlotte and Carrie's Fight About Finances, S4 E16 Ring a Ding Ding
This is kind of a controversial take depending on who you are. Carrie and Aidan break up (more on that later) and when they were living together Aidan bought her apartment. After their last conversation, Aidan leaves her an envelope with her name on it and it’s a notice that says she has 30 days to send the downpayment on her apartment or move out. Carrie then tries to get a loan and realizes that she has no assets and that she financially is worth nothing. Carrie then goes to Big to ask him for money help and he offers give her the money. She obviously says no because she is dumb and rips up the check that he gave her. Carrie was about to lose her apartment and Big offered to pay for it. That could have been the end of it. It’s the least he can do!!! Carrie is stubborn and feels like if Big is buying her apartment then he is buying her. To some degree, I understand that, but at the same time, you are about to be homeless girl! Carrie should have thought about the fact that Aidan owns her apartment before breaking up with him.
I personally agree with Samantha that money is money. As long as it’s in your bank account, no one can make you do anything. So, Carrie tells the girls about this and Miranda and Samantha offer to loan her the money. Charlotte says nothing. Carrie then shows up to Charlotte’s (gorgeous) apartment and demands to know why Charlotte didn’t offer to give her the money. Charlotte puts it plain and simple “It is not my responsibility to fix your finances.” DUH!!!!!! Carrie has a lot of nerve for a girl who is about to be on the street. I understand that they are friends. I understand that Charlotte has the money. But to show up to someone’s house unannounced (!) and demand to know why they didn’t give you any of THEIR money for something that has nothing to do with them is crazy. Charlotte could have been a lot meaner if she wanted to. Charlotte does end up giving Carrie her ring from Trey so she can pay the down payment. That’s why Charlotte is a classy bitch! My favorite part of this scene is when Charlotte takes a breath before reading Carrie. Charlotte was appalled by the proposition!
7. The Engagement Ring Necklace, S4 E14 “All That Glitters”
For those who don’t know, Carrie and Aidan get engaged. Not after she is convinced that she shouldn’t but does it anyway. After a couple of days Carrie goes out but not without putting the ring on a chain and telling Aidan “it’s closer to my heart this way.” Bitch if you don’t be fucking for real. If I was Aidan that would have pissed me off so bad. You can see him in that moment be like “……ok?” because what??? That was red flag number one that they should not have gotten engaged. This episode always sticks out to me because of the sheer audacity of Carrie. She tortured Aidan and he deserves financial compensation. Well I guess he got it actually when she paid for her apartment. I just think she should should have just worn the ring on her finger. Wearing it around her neck was just ridiculous. Especially because it’s so obvious that it is a lie. She winces whenever someone mentions that she’s engaged! I never understood why she couldn’t just go through with it. But, i’ll get into that later.
6. When Carrie shows up at Big's church, S1 E12 “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”
This episode makes me cringe so hard. Carrie sees Big at church with his mother and wants to meet her. Big specifically told Carrie not to come to his church. Carrie only wants to go so she can meet his mother. Carrie feels that she should have met his mother by now. Which may be true! Its not clear how long Big and Carrie were dating by this episode. Big is still unsure about Carrie because she’s crazy! Carrie is so infatuated with this man that she even convinces Miranda to come with her to church. Miranda!!! Season 1 Carrie was something else. Then she has the nerve to drop the bible from the mezzanine and interrupt the entire service. Just pitiful. Then Carrie has the nerve to go up to Big and his mom and introduce herself. Then get mad when his mother has no idea who she is. Well duh!!! He didn’t even want you to come dummy!!! I think at this point they had only been dating for a few months. It’s not that weird to not want someone to meet your parents after a short amount of time. Especially since Big is divorced. Big wanted to be sure that Carrie was the one before putting his mother through that again and I think that is fair. Idk why he thought that Natasha was the one but……..ok!
Big even decides to forgive and forget and take her on a vacation!! A vacation!!!! Her ass doesn’t deserve a vacation! She deserves to be institutionalized! So instead of being normal and waiting until after she got a free vacation. Carrie decides to ask big if she’s the one. Not before choosing the worst possible time which is while Big is putting her bags in the car.
Big is rightfully gagged and doesn’t say anything. Carrie throws a fit and says she isn’t getting in the car. Then Big asks “is that it?” and she nods and that is that. Ridiculous. All of this could have been avoided if Carrie wasn’t the queen of self-sabotage and just waited for him to say that he loves her naturally. I hate that this episode makes me side with Big! I hate that man! But I have to give credit where credit is due. Carrie was tripping.
5. When Carrie breaks off her engagement with Aidan, S4 E16 “Change of a Dress”
Sigh. The end of what should have been. I just recently watched this episode and it crushes me every time. Carrie freaks out when Aidan knocks a hole in her wall and tells him that she needs them to slow down bit on the marriage stuff. Aidan complies for a few days until they go to this White and Black party that Richard (Samantha’s man) is throwing. After the event, Aidan says they should go to Las Vegas and get married. That basically sends them into an argument where Carrie doesn’t understand why Aidan wants to get married so bad. I mean that was a crazy thing to say to someone who just had a panic attack because she isn’t ready to get married.
Aidan’s argument is pretty much “because that’s what people do” which I don’t agree with. He says whats the big idea it’s just a piece of paper. Carrie eats him up a little bit with “if it’s just a piece of paper why do we need it?” Aidan says he wants everyone to know that she’s his. She says “who else’s would I be?” Then Aidan gives her that look of “bitch now don’t play dumb.” Carrie realizes that Aidan still doesn’t trust her and they ultimately break up.
This pisses me off because all of this could have been avoided if she would have just said no his engagement. Or just went through with the engagement because it meant to much to Aidan. I don’t really understand why it was such a big deal that they got married. As much as this pisses me off, I understand that you shouldn’t get married to someone when you know its a bad idea. I just think they way she went about it was terrible. If she really didn’t want to be with anyone else then why couldn’t she just marry him. The truth is she wasn’t sure that Aidan was the one and if you’re not sure……then he isn't. Aidan knew that. So sad.
4. When Carrie Invites Big to The Country, S4 E10 “Belles of the Ball”
This episode pisses me off so much!!! As a country girl myself, it is my dream for someone to ask me to go to a remote cabin with them. Anything to get out of the city for a while. It’s bad enough that Carrie is still friends with Big after everything that happened. But then she has the nerve to let him come out to the country where Carrie and Aidan are staying. Aidan is obviously pissed because what the fuck? But to invite your ex - who you cheated on your current boyfriend with - to your current boyfriend’s house is just……….diabolical. Especially when the reason is because he is upset about an actress who won’t call him. You are a 40 year old man. Grow up! Then of course Aidan is pissy because “Ho, why is you here?” Aidan starts bouncing a basketball on the house to annoy Carrie and Big. Big goes to talk to him and Aidan bounces the ball in mud and throws it to Big. This basically causes them to fight.
This was kinda…….let me stop. Ultimately this is a mess. Carrie is 100% wrong about this and again, needs to be institutionalized. The fact that Aidan didn’t break up with her after that is insane. I would have sent them both packing to the city.
The moment when Aidan and Big bond over Bigs troubles with Carrie watching was really funny, I’m not gonna lie. I mean after all that bullshit what else is there to do but laugh?
3. Natasha Falling down the stairs, S3 E11 “Running With Scissors”
This is arguably one of, if not the most, notorious episode of the entire series. This was just too much. Imagine watching this live and 4 way calling all your best friends who also watched this happen. Ugh I wish.
But let’s start with Carrie eating Natasha’s leftovers!! Sure, maybe it was from when Big and her ordered from the night before. But the level of comfort that Carrie has in their house is disgusting. The fact that Carrie decided to run and got caught is so embarrassing. Natasha then slips and falls and chips her tooth. Oh God it’s so sad. Natasha was a baddie too. She is supposed to be in her 20s and she was already the head of Ralph Lauren or whatever, sickening. And then there is Carrie, a broke shoe-obsessed newspaper columnist. No shade to newspaper columnists because I see you and love you, but in terms of cuntiness, Natasha has her beat. Even Carrie admits it. The only redeemable thing about this scenario is that Carrie goes with her to the hospital and doesn’t just leave her bleeding out. Big shows up to the hospital like a damn fool and really thinks him and Carrie are going to be messing around still…..just sad. The worst part was when she had to come back home to Aidan and realizes that he would never have done that to her. Yeah girl you flopped. I don’t feel sorry for you! Carrie deserved all the Karma that she got for that. Especially when Natasha read her for FILTH in that restaurant. “I’m sorry that you felt the need to apologize” Get her again for me Natasha! Get her again!
2. When Carrie starts her affair with Big, S3 E9 “Easy Come, Easy Go”
We all know Aidan is my dream man. He didn’t want that much from Carrie! He just wanted her not to lie to him and to quit smoking. Instead, she cheats on him in cold blood and has the nerve to say she feels bad about it. The most heartbreaking part of this show is when Carrie is begging for Aidan to come back after they have been broken up for a while and then he shouts “YOU BROKE MY HEART!” Because DUH YOU DUMBASS!!! Carrie is a textbook narcissist and the thought that Aidan wouldn’t want to get back together with her didn’t even cross her mind. She cornered him into getting back together with her and its so sad. Aidan shouldn’t have gotten back together with her but this isn’t about him. ANYWAYS this episode is so sad because Aidan really doesn’t deserve it. Like, at all. John Corbett was a perfect Aidan. He made it seem like he was actually in love with her! Look I hate her but I get it! She’s visually stunning! I hate her so much and even I can’t look away.
This was the beginning of the end for me liking Carrie. When she cheated on Aidan I never liked her again. Aidan loved her so much he was willing to take her back. No, she didn’t cheat on him that time, but she broke his heart just the same. What kills me is that she has the nerve to feel bad about it. As if someone held a gun to her head. I don’t believe she felt bad about it for one second. I think if Natasha didn’t fall down the stairs it would have went on much longer. She was eating topless in their house!! Her give a fucks were on vacation!!!!!! I can recognize that Carrie and Aidan weren’t the perfect match. But, she really just tossed him around and I don’t like that.
1. When Carrie took Big back after he left her at the altar, Sex and The City Movie
Technically he never even made it to the altar, which is even sadder. I understand that he was freaking out because this would be his third marriage. But you had been dating this woman at this point for years and you’re old. What are you really afraid of? This by far is the most embarrassing thing that Carrie ever did. Not only did she allow this man come back into her life after he went to Paris and married Natasha. She also allowed him to tell her TO HER FACE that she “wasn’t the marrying kind.”She didn’t even respond when he said that. She just kept talking. Pathetic.
Then she breaks off her engagement to Aidan after not being sure if she wants to get married. Then, she basically forces Big to get married! I thought you weren’t ready for marriage, Carrie! Big gets all the way to the venue and decides that he can’t do it. She beats him with her bouquet in the middle of the filthy New York street. She becomes depressed and wastes her entire honeymoon in her bed. AND STILL takes him back after all of that. That is just unfathomable pick me behavior. Carrie’s friends are better than me because I would have beat his ass. I wouldn’t care if it was int he middle of the street. I also would have beat her ass for taking him back after all that. Carrie stand up!!!
Charlotte was the only one who stood on business. The sight of Big made her go into labor. That’s real anger baby. She ate with “I curse the day you were born!” Because what??? If this man had embarrassed me in the beautiful New York Public Library in a custom Vivienne Westwood gown, I would have never spoken to him again. Let alone actually go through with marrying him! That being said, it is a crime that her and Big got married at the court house. Don’t get me started on her ugly “wedding dress.” I mean I don’t approve of the wedding but can’t we do it in style? This man embarrassed you beyond belief and you want to get married in the court house? Have some self respect Carrie. At the same time, it is what she deserves so oh well 🤷🏾♀️. Big leaving her at the altar is karma for what she did to Aidan. It has to be! Carrie, you’re bird go ahead and sing your tune! In the end Carrie and Big deserve each other. Two terrible people who only deserve terrible things happening to them.
There you have it folks! These are the reasons why I will never respect Carrie. I don’t really understand how people idolize her in a positive light but maybe you can explain it to me.
What’s a Carrie moment that I missed? Do you agree with my ranking? Let me know in the comments!
girl- I needed a spoiler alert for the last one
