If you are not a Brooklyn gay or hag you may not know what The Rosemont is. The Rosemont is a gay bar/club in Brooklyn. It’s a staple in Brooklyn's gay nightlife. I used to frequent it in college all the time. In college, I had some of the best nights ever there because the music used to be almost always great and the vibes were incredible. The real remember when the frozen margs were $10 instead of $12! I’m not sure if Covid is to blame or what, but ever since Covid I’ve hated going to The Rosemont.
It is either way too crowded, way too hot, or the music is terrible. When I say the music is terrible, I mean the DJ is turning down the volume to change tracks. Mama let’s research! I am not going to name the DJ I can’t stand, but if you have been to The Rosemont or any other parties in Bushwick you have definitely heard their djing. They also close the outside patio around 1 am. I understand because of the neighbors but it brings the vibe down when we can’t go out back for a smoke break.
This past Friday was the finale of Rupual’s Drag Race. I don’t watch Drag Race anymore because it’s too hard for me to keep up with weekly reality TV shows. But I was really into it a few years ago and even went to Drag Con alone the first weekend I moved to New York.1 I am not new to this I am true to this! All of that to say, the gays were out! I didn’t go to a viewing party for the finale, but I met up with some friends who were out at a viewing party nearby at 3 Dollar Bill.
Upon hearing that my friends wanted to go to The Rosemont I did my usual dance of groaning and trying to find somewhere else to go. Eventually, I was like fuck it, I’ll just go and if it sucks it sucks! I just wanted to hang out with my friends. I’m not sure what came over me, but I just needed to dance that day. I didn’t even dress up. I put on my Arianka shirt2, a long black skirt, slip-on sketchers3, and called it a day. It seems like Selena rewarded me for going out because that was one of the best nights I’ve had out in a while.
Not only was the music jumpin’ jumpin’ from start to finish. The DJ I hate was nowhere in sight and they even played a mix of My House and 1 2 Step that I cannot stop thinking about. Another thing I usually hate about The Rosemont is how small the dancefloor is. I understand they’re doing the best with what they got but girl sometimes it’s too much. However, on Friday they had the air conditioning on!!! I was gagged!!

Granted, there are usually more people in the summer. But, I will give The Rosemont this win. I didn’t bring my fan because I truly didn’t think about the fact that it would still be hot in the club even if it was cold outside. That’s how you know I haven’t been out in a while chile.4 I even saw someone behind the DJ booth with the exact same fan that I have. All these bitches really are my sons. I’ve been bringing fans to clubs since like 2021.
Another hilarious thing that happened was that they were playing the beginning of a song that I didn’t know and I shazamed it and it was this remix of Jenny from the block lmfao. I truly didn’t know her.
I mean look at me here having the best time dancing to Beyoncé! Before I got embarrassed by making Micahel film me and then having him immediately stop lol.
The icing on the cake was when I realized the people I was with didn’t have any poppers. So I was like it’s okay we’ll get them from somewhere. Eventually, I saw a group of nice gays doing poppers and they let me have some. So shout out to them!
This night just truly gagged me because I haven’t had a really good night out like that in months. Something about me is when I go to the club I dance like Charlotte when she was in Staten Island. No matter what song is playing I dance like I am on molly lmfao. I actually have never done molly before but I don’t need it to have a good time. I had an ice cold Coke a Cola and a dream. There wasn’t really a point to this newsletter. I just needed to let the people know that The Rosemont may be cool again. I know most gay men have not stopped going there. But in Kiara’s Court, The Rosemont is about to get its cool stamp back. With everything going on in the world, hey, let’s celebrate that!
I have a very fond memory of a Drag Queen dressed like Rose Quartz helping me with the train. Trying to go to the Javits center with no help the first weekend you move to New York City is a choice.
No but actually. This is Arianka from 7 rings era. May she never be forgotten.
I have no shame in my sketchers game. These are the most comfortable sneakers i’ve ever had and they are cute! I also don’t have laces so I never have to stop and tie my shoes. A lot girls can’t say that!
Am I getting old?
This piece is a great reminder to go to the rosemont when new charli comes out bc I know I’ll need that
