Even more questions | AJLT Series Finale Recap
Discussing the lackluster recap and all my remaining questions
I’m back from vacation, and we made it to the final recap. I knew the finale was lackluster because of the people who texted me, even though I told them not to LOL. Regardless, the finale left more to be desired. I have a theory that they decided to end the series after they already filmed the finale because there is no way they thought this would be a good ending to the series. Regardless, this show was always just for fun. The real ending was at the end of season 6 or the second movie if you like fun. Regardless, I will miss watching and recapping this every week. Goodbye for now, Carrie Bradshaw.

Carrie
Carrie is eating alone in a futuristic Asian restaurant. She is acting like she can’t figure out how to work the iPad, even though it has pictures on it. Then the server with a cute bob comes over and sets a huge plushie “Tommy Tomato” in the seat opposite her so she “doesn’t have to eat alone.”
If I were Carrie, that would have annoyed me too, but I would have upped the ante and started talking to the plushie.
Adam is working on Carrie’s garden, and she asks him if “Seema is just a Thursday” in reference to Thanksgiving. He says no, “Seema is a lifetime.” Then she just drops it. Then she tells him that she wants the garden to be more “wild and free like me.” We never see what the finished garden looks like.
Then we have Carrie running around delivering pies to everyone’s house like Santa Claus. She is visibly uncomfortable at Miranda’s Thanksgiving, but stays. I don’t understand why this was written this way? Why not have all the characters together for the finale?
So we end with Carrie not falling for Mark's bait.
She ends up “not alone - but on her own.” It was obvious they were going to end it like that from the episode with her editor. I don’t hate that Carrie ends up alone, but I can’t help but feel that her storyline was the only one that was wrapped up. I think it’s honestly a smart and interesting choice to make her end up single. Her first love was always NYC, so having her be content with herself makes sense. Also, it’s honestly refreshing to see a storyline like this because not everyone will end up with someone. Some people have to come to terms with being alone. I appreciate the sentiment, but I don’t know if I feel it was executed well enough to be believable for Carrie. I did appreciate the nod to the original opening credits with her wearing a tutu.
Miranda
Miranda and Steve are eating dinner, and they are discussing the Brady and Mia situation.
I’m glad that Miranda and Steve are in a place where they can talk and be friendly.
As Miranda is getting ready for Thanksgiving, she gets a text from Joy that one of her dogs is sick. She thinks she’s lying until she calls her and finds out that he really is sick and is undergoing surgery for swallowing something sharp. Miranda leaves Brady and Carrie to finish setting up.
Mia arrives with two of her friends and immediately begins being rude to Brady. Mia comes to Miranda’s defense and tells Brady to stop being mean to her. Mark is going to the bathroom, and the toilet overflows from Epcot’s shit. Poor guy. He didn’t deserve that.
On the bright side, Joy comes to Miranda’s after all, and they have a warm embrace on the floor of Miranda’s bathroom.
We never get to see Steve again, or Brady’s baby, or the progression of Miranda and Joy’s relationship. Sigh. I still don’t understand why Miranda’s Thanksgiving was the focal point of this episode. Miranda isn’t someone who would want to throw a Thanksgiving. Also, the toilet scene? Jail. Mia’s friends being introduced in the last episode of the show was so random and a waste of time? Especially if we didn’t learn anything about Mia or her plans for the baby. Why even introduce that storyline if you weren’t going to resolve it or do anything with it?
I am happy that Miranda is finally in a happy and healthy lesbian relationship as God intended.
Charlotte
Charlotte and LTW have an “illuminating” conversation about marriage during the bridal show. Charlotte says that she would still choose to be married to Harry despite everything that’s happened in their marriage. LTW hesitates but agrees.
Charlotte is basting the turkey, and Harry comes and tells her that he’s hard. They rush off to have sex.
Charlotte arrives to drop off her stuffing, and Carrie confronts her about the fact that she invited Mark to Miranda’s Thanksgiving. Carrie says she’s not interested because “he’s been married three times.” Uhhhhh wasn’t Carrie Big’s third wife?? Interesting…..
So Charlotte’s plotline ends with her and Harry having sex and her accepting Rock’s gender journey? Interesting…….. They never really gave Charlotte her own plotline this season, so that is unfortunate.
Seema
Seema is getting ready for work, and Adam reveals that he doesn’t believe in weddings. Seema is clearly very upset.
At the bridal fashion show, Seema is working through her feelings about marriage and whether she truly wants it. She asks Carrie why she got married, and she said, “Because it meant I was chosen.” I’m glad Carrie can realize that about herself.
We never resolve the marriage plotline for Seema. We just heard her say that she doesn’t miss gluten………..
I’m happy that Seema found love, but it does seem like she’s having to compromise on a lot of things. I wish we got to see her confront her ideals with marriage and work them out with Adam. I feel like they didn’t know what they were doing with Seema for most of the series and kind of just threw something together at the end. Either way at least she got her man so i’ll take that win.
LTW
LTW and Marion are watching cuts of the docu-series, and LTW gets the text that Michelle Obama might be interested in narrating the series.
Marion suggests getting dinner to celebrate, and LTW freaks out, insisting that their relationship can only exist within the walls of their office.
LTW’s storyline ends with her once again comforting Herbert, and him finally pulling his weight in their relationship.
I hate how much of her storyline didn’t advance this season. She’s still working on this damn docu-series, and we don’t even get to see it finished. She also stays with Herbert’s annoying ass, so that sucks. LTW I’m sorry how they wrote you in this series.
That’s just…it? This finale seemed rushed. There is no way that they actually intended for this to be the series finale. They didn’t finish any of the plot points! My guess is they didn’t want to finalize anything, so in our minds, these characters stay living and breathing and active. But it comes across as lazy storytelling. I’m fine with how they ended Carrie’s storyline, but the other characters deserved to have some closure.
So here are the questions I still have after that terrible series finale:
Does Seema still want to get married to Adam?
What happened with Charlotte’s vertigo?
What college did Lily get into?
What does Carrie’s garden look like?
What is going to happen to Brady and Mia’s baby?
Will LTW and Marion ever cross the line?
Will Michelle Obama narrate the 10-part docuseries?
Will LTW ever finish her 10-part docuseries?
Will Steve ever find love again?
What are all the details of Anthony and Guisppee’s wedding? I’m so sad we don’t get to see it.
What questions do you still have after the series finale? Will you miss AJLT? Let me know in the comments!
There’s no way this was the finale they intended… barely anything happened. And I could’ve lived without the slapstick toilet as a main character.
But these recaps have been a highlight! Thank you 🫶
Oh I have a lot of questions, mainly directed at the writers: how dare you. This show felt like it was transcribing a fever dream. Who knew it was possible to make something worse than the second film?
